Gluten-Free: South Shore, MA

Whether you’re visiting the south shore, or just looking for new restaurants close to home - these are my go-to places to eat in the area. Have you been to any of these restaurants?!

burton’s grill
I can’t do Burton’s justice! If you haven’t been to Burton’s Grill, you need to get to Burton’s Grill. Most of their regular menu can be made gluten-free, and they offer an extensive separate gluten-free menu. They take allergies and celiac disease extremely seriously, and serve gluten-free food on a square plate (versus round for normal food). They ask every party about allergies, and when you order a gluten-free dish, it is brought to the table by a separate person. They even offer gluten-free focaccia to replace their dinner rolls!

My Favorite? Gluten-free California Chicken Sandwich & Maxx Burger

Location? 94 Derby St #279, Hingham, MA 02043

cedar cafe
For the longest time, something I missed so much was wraps. Like, chicken caesar salad in a wrap? Amazing. Any salad, in wrap form? Incredible. When you’re gluten-free or have celiac disease, it’s really hard to find gluten-free wraps. And, when you do - they are awful. They break, they are tough, and rubbery.

Cedars did something right. It was my favorite salad place pre-celiac disease (in their old location), and I have followed them to a new town. They not only have an entire gluten-free menu, they are even willing to accommodate changes to their non gluten-free menu items to make them gluten-free. Every staff member is so friendly, kind, educated on celiac disease - and they have had an answer to every question I have ever asked!

My favorite? Chicken caesar wrap with no croutons on a gluten-free wrap

Location? 9 Grove St, Norwell, MA 02061

cava
If you read my Casual GF in Boston post, you saw Cava on that list, too. There’s a location on the South Shore! Read that post to learn all about Cava.

My Favorite? Romaine, brown rice, hummus, harissa, chicken, quinoa, banana peppers, cucumbers and greek dressing!

Location? 94 Derby St, Hingham, MA 02043

gourmet garden
Japanese and Chinese cuisine, with a gluten-free menu! Not only can you order sushi, but you can feel safe ordering a handful of entrees as well. Their gluten-free menu is minimal, but their food is organic and fresh, and the staff is knowledgeable about celiac disease and their gluten-free menu. They even have Tamari!

My Favorite? Avocado and cucumber maki & Gluten-free spicy chicken

Location? 48 Whiting St, Hingham, MA 02043

jake’s seafood
If you’re looking for fresh seafood with a great view, Jake’s is the place for you! Enjoy fresh (fried in their separate fryer, if you’re into that) seafood, while looking out on the water. Most of their menu can be made gluten-free, and there’s even an option for (Manhattan) clam chowder! Bonus? They have Glutenberg beer.

My Favorite? Gluten-free fried calamari with fries.

Location? 50 George Washington Blvd, Hull, MA 02045

stars on hingham harbor
Another restaurant on the water in Hingham! A great spot to enjoy fried seafood (dedicated fryer!), choosing from an extensive separate gluten-free menu. The staff is great, and there are tons of options to choose from - whether or not you want to eat seafood. They offer everything from salads and burgers, to pasta dishes with homemade pasta. There is something for everyone!

My Favorite? Fried Calamari & BBQ Spiced Cauliflower & Shrimp Scampi

Location? 3 Otis St, Hingham, MA 02043

alma nove
Offering a slightly more upscale experience, Alma Nove is also situated on the water (in Hingham!). Choose from their extensive gluten-free menu, but please note they don’t have a dedicated fryer. They have everything from salads to pasta dishes, and even a kids menu! Enjoy good food and a great view.

My Favorite? Gluten-free penne with Italian sausage, roasted eggplant, blistered cherry tomato, smoked tomato sauce, ricotta salata

Location? 22 Shipyard Dr, Hingham, MA 02043

110 grill
I’m assuming most people have visited 110 Grill, as their locations are pretty widespread. But if you haven’t - you should! They have similar protocol to Burton’s, but the food varies a bit. It’s a bit more casual of a restaurant, but they take allergies just as seriously. Their gluten-free menu is extensive, and the food tastes great.

My Favorite? BBQ Chicken Nachos & Buffalo Chicken Nachos

Location? 170 Forbes Rd, Braintree, MA 02184

punjab
Love Indian food? This is the place for you! They have an allergen sheet, and the staff is knowledgeable and careful. The food is incredible and the service is good! What more could you ask for?

My Favorite? Chicken Tikka

Location? 653 Southern Artery, Quincy, MA 02169
